Meet the Teachers

Leah Carpenter, Founder + Lead Facilitator

I'm Leah - an educator, runner, maker, and a proud mom of two wonderful kids. With a masters in teaching, and well over a decade of teaching experience in both Washington, D.C., and here in Asheville, I've had the privilege of working with diverse groups of students, ages 2 to 82.

Teaching Philosophy:

My passion lies in creating enriching environments for children to learn and play. I believe in providing kids with abundant opportunities to engage in play, fostering the development of motor and spatial reasoning skills. As a mother myself, I understand the importance of community, and I strive to create spaces where children can connect and thrive together.

At Light + Love Arts, we seamlessly integrate art, and a connection to nature into our teaching philosophy. Our approach prioritizes providing children with ample time and space for artistic expression and hands-on learning.

Play serves as a catalyst for building motor and spatial reasoning skills, while our open-ended, nature-inspired art and gardening projects nurture creativity and a deep love for the environment. In this unique blend, our outdoor spaces become dynamic classrooms, resonating with the rhythm of the seasons and fostering a strong sense of connection with the earth.

Artistic Approach:

At Light + Love Arts, our projects are more than just art – they are experiences. I am a firm believer in open-ended, nature-inspired projects rooted in the principles of process art. This approach allows children to explore their creativity freely, encouraging self-expression and a love for the natural world.

Why Light + Love Arts?

My goal is to cultivate a community where light and love are at the core. Through our programs, we're not just creating art; we're building connections, fostering a love for learning, and nurturing the growth of each child. I am dedicated to providing a space where kids can be themselves, play, and develop skills that will last a lifetime.
